Hi, I’m Maia (she/her) — you may have seen me around in the chats a lot lately!
Over the past two weeks, I’ve worked hard to build the technical system for managing our memberships, websites, elections, and logos – and whether I’m elected as part of the committee or not, I would love to continue dedicating my technical skills to this cause.
My father immigrated to Britain from Belarus over 20 years ago, escaping the fascist autocracy that began silencing any opposition, and my mother has worked in the NHS for her entire life.
In both cases, my parents struggled with austerity politics, causing me to be raised with the expectation of using my voice for the many. As a trans woman and child of an immigrant, I understand what it is like to feel the struggle of no healthcare, no recognition, and no support.
My goal on the steering committee is simple: to ensure that we keep growing as a youth movement, using digital platforms to spread our message to all those that need to hear it.
